Summer House On Cape Cod

Stock holders want

ever better returns

so who cares

if paradise burns

and who cares

that we never learn

anything from these mistakes,

from these risks we take

with the lives of the poor

we’ve counted up our money

and still we want more

so we watch our neighbors starve

as pallets of food rot

behind locked market doors

and wars last decades

and our memory fades

but we’re glad we bought

that Lockheed stock

though we’ve got nothing

against the people

of Iraq or Afghanistan

or anywhere else

it’s just business,

and if the stocks keep going

up like this

we’ll have that summer house

on Cape Cod

by the time we retire.

About soitgoes1984

I was born and raised on land stolen from the Pocumtuc. I now live on a small island in the middle of the Pacific ocean, on land that was stolen more recently, from the Hawaiians. I am addict, struggling to kick the habit of fossil fuel. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.
