Stardust

We can’t see the stars

through all the haze in the sky

and we can’t see our connection

to billions of people

who live and die

beneath these stars

so we quiet our hearts

and numb our minds

but then a clear night comes along

and a twinkling star finds us

and we remember

that our way of life

is killing stardust

and we realize

that our bloodlust

is turning life into ash

as we’re busy trading

stardust for cash

for houses too big

and for fossil burning cars

I wish the haze would clear

and we could see all of the stars

and see all of the scars

on humanity’s heart

and see that we’re all scarred

because we’re all a part

of this universe

we’re all singing the same verse,

breathing in

and breathing out

breathing in

and breathing out,

look up at the stars

before they all burn out.

About soitgoes1984

I was born and raised on land stolen from the Pocumtuc. I now live on a small island in the middle of the Pacific ocean, on land that was stolen more recently, from the Hawaiians. I am addict, struggling to kick the habit of fossil fuel. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.
