2nd Hand

Are you ready to let go

of those 3rd, and 4th,

and 5th hand fairy-tales,

are you ready to set sail

in your own ship, ready

to grab hold of the pen

and make it the trip

that you want to take

write your book

for it’s own sake

break the easy bake

and start a fire

the food gets better

as the flame grows higher

and the second hand

smoke only adds flavor

to whatever you cook

and the second hand

stops moving when you don’t look

and they might say

that you took a chance and failed

but it’s better to have bailed

than to go down

with the titanic

and succumb

to the second hand panic

kneeling and praying

instead of jumping in

and trying to swim

go out on that limb

and it might break

but it might take

your breath away

it just might be

the most incredible thing

in the world

and you might see God

from out there

so don’t rely

on second hand knowledge

don’t believe me

or the government

the news

the bible

or college

only trust what you can see

and feel

and don’t let society

steal your soul

and sell you some

second hand dogma

and make you think

that knowledge comes from a book

and that god lives

in a cathedral

with expensive artwork

and a collection plate

when it comes to living life

never settle for

second hand or second rate

About soitgoes1984

I was born and raised on land stolen from the Pocumtuc. I now live on a small island in the middle of the Pacific ocean, on land that was stolen more recently, from the Hawaiians. I am addict, struggling to kick the habit of fossil fuel. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.
