Jugglers And Clowns

What would Bob Dylan write

if he were twenty years old today

and would people listen?

and did they really listen

back in 1962?

Maybe he would realize,

were he twenty years old today

that it wouldn’t really matter

what the hell he wrote,

that nobody would really listen

just like he realized

as the 1960’s were winding down

that is,

that he made little more impact

on society

than the jugglers

and the clowns.

He realized he was an entertainer

and the people were entertained

and they never really listened anyway

and they still wouldn’t listen today

were he in his twenties

writing about masters of war/s

and they still don’t listen

now that he’s closing in

on eighty

and maybe that’s why

today

he’s selling shitty, gurgled records

because maybe even he stopped listening

and he long ago stopped caring

because he realized that nobody cares

and maybe that’s why today

Bob Dylan is a haggard sell-out

selling whiskey

and America is a haggard sell-out

seventeen years into terrorizing

the people of Afghanistan.

About soitgoes1984

I was born and raised on land stolen from the Pocumtuc. I now live on a small island in the middle of the Pacific ocean, on land that was stolen more recently, from the Hawaiians. I am addict, struggling to kick the habit of fossil fuel. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.
