Birds

The other day, I sat in silence

watching the birds play

and listening to them sing

and each time one would leave

it would bring a few more as it returned

and I thought it was a bird party

until I got up and walked over

and saw that it was a feast…

the birds had realized before I did

that the bananas were ripening

and they ate half the stalk

and I wasn’t upset

I was really just impressed

at how well they share.

There is a lot we can learn

from birds.
