The animals know what time it is

The cats have all gathered in the barn

the dogs are running back and forth

and howling in the meadow

the chickens and ducks, on high alert

gather in their yard

the horse starts to make as much noise as she can

banging into her gate

reminding me she weighs 1,000 pounds…

and the goats and sheep are all in a row

silently waiting by the fence

because they know what time it is

and they know that I’m late

and sure enough, it’s 5:15 pm

it’s time to wait on them,

to bring them their dinner

because no matter what I’m doing

they always let me know what time it is

About soitgoes1984

I was born and raised on land stolen from the Pocumtuc. I now live on a small island in the middle of the Pacific ocean, on land that was stolen more recently, from the Hawaiians. I am addict, struggling to kick the habit of fossil fuel. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.
