You Can Sing Out Of Tune

Don’t let them tempt you to barter your soul

never bow down for plastic, or gold

or paper, or powder, or dwellings, or cars

turn off the noise and look to the stars…

The answers are out there, the silence is clear

it’s pin-drops and crickets, there’s nothing to fear

let the elephants paint us an image of God

they never vanished, it was all a facade

there’s no hatted rabbit, and no Cheshire grin

just aristocrats pushing original sin

drink this gin, drink this vodka,

this whiskey, this rum

and please sing along as we beat this war drum…

pa rum pa pum pum

rum pa pum pum

rum pa pum pum

so the fires they rage as we dance through the night

and Dante’s Inferno is what we call light

but our sight must be failing if we can’t see

that the kindling we’re using is humanity

burned out and haggard, we work ourselves to the bone

watching jugglers and clowns from our cracked-glass cellphones

from Monday thru Friday, we’re barely alive

hope the medicines cold when we get home at five

we’re resigned to this life for the next 40 years

as humanity burns, there’s no strength left for tears…

but I found a secret that I want you to know

life’s not preordained, nothing has to be so

so stop chasing illusions and old fairy tales,

you can plot your own course, you can make your own sail

you can grow your own food, you can plant by the moon

you can rise with the sun, and you can sing out of tune

About soitgoes1984

I was born and raised on land stolen from the Pocumtuc. I now live on a small island in the middle of the Pacific ocean, on land that was stolen more recently, from the Hawaiians. I am addict, struggling to kick the habit of fossil fuel. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.
