Freedom Isn’t Free

Apparently, your degree can’t help you see

that ‘freedom isn’t free’

are just shallow words we learned from the TV

and we repeat them with such glee

never thinking independently

when they say, subliminally,

‘repeat after me’

as they’re taxing our tea and felling our trees

to build more bombs

and write more marketing copy

to get us to believe

the very same system

that has polluted rivers

and oceans,

mountains and valleys,

that has poisoned our bodies

our minds

and our ecosystem

the very same system that has crushed millions

beneath tank tracks

and with nuclear,

chemical,

biological,

and conventional weapons…

they want us to believe that system will save us

they want us to believe that system can save us.

About soitgoes1984

I was born and raised on land stolen from the Pocumtuc. I now live on a small island in the middle of the Pacific ocean, on land that was stolen more recently, from the Hawaiians. I am addict, struggling to kick the habit of fossil fuel. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.
