A Horse Named Daisy

I have a horse named Daisy.

She came with the name,

and was over a year old when I got her

so we kept the name.

She’s still too young to ride,

so I walk her for now

twice a day

and groom her

and give her treats

that my sister-in-law sent in a care package

which included some horse grooming items.

The treats are dehydrated apple bites

the only ingredient is apple,

so I tried one

but to me it didn’t really taste like apple

unless they used the entire apple

and some branches and leaves maybe,

I didn’t really care for it

but Daisy LOVES them

she curled her upper lip

after her first one

so I asked around what that was all about,

I thought maybe she didn’t like them at all

and maybe she was upset

but I was told that curling the upper lip

is called the Flehmen’s Response

and it’s a way that they close their nostrils

to trap a sent for further investigation

or something along those lines

usually they do it with pheromone scents

and male horses do it more than females

but Daisy curled her upper lip

after getting her first apple bite

and she was so excited by these new treats

she started galloping around the pasture

and bucking…

and then, as she was bucking

she started farting

and kept farting, on and off

for a few minutes.

Now, even without the treats

she still farts

but only while shes bucking.
