And Then I Woke Up

I jumped from the top floor of a skyscraper the other night

in my dream

there was a crowd of people,

a party of some sort,

but then I jumped

and then I was falling for a while

and I was thinking about the fact that I was falling

and the windows of the building

became one glassy blur,

melting together

then as I neared the ground,

everything faded to black

then the next thing I knew,

I was back on the top floor of the skyscraper

and there were the same people around as before

and they were still talking

and they talked about the guy who jumped

and I was there listening

but they couldn’t see me

and then I woke up.

I was born and raised on land stolen from the Pocumtuc. I now live on a small island in the middle of the Pacific ocean, on land that was stolen more recently, from the Hawaiians. I am addict, struggling to kick the habit of fossil fuel. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.
