a wasp stung my eye

and the dog killed a kitten

the truck shit the bed

and so it was written

and Merry Christmas

said the atheist

I saw two shooting stars just now

when I went outside to piss

and family is here

through the end of the year

though with stomach in knots

we struggle to cheer

ginger beer too sweet

and mushrooms too old

the barking deer can’t fly too high

dead water’s too cold

the tea needs more time to steep

we all need to purge

the charcoal needs more time to work

the cats on the verge

of running away

since the dog wants more than play

she left that dead kitten as proof

now I’m laying on the roof

staring at the stars

is that Mars

or is it me?

are we enslaved

or are we free?

lets go cut down a Christmas tree

no, lets just hug it for a while

see baby Jesus,

start to smile

but Bethlehem has been too dark

the wall is growing

there no more hark

the herald angel’s sing

strange gifts that this aparthide brings

no slings and arrows

don’t you cry

how bout a Christmas lullabye

and by and bye

the angels fly

and refugees flee

so they dont die

stop getting high

open your eyes

the wasps may sting

but soon they’ll die

and Merry Christmas

and bye.
