sundial

it’s scary

how time slips

soon tomorrow

will be years ago

as the record skips

but its a pretty great trip

around and around

the sun

spun so fast

keep on spinning

don’t remember the beginning

and tomorrow, today

will be yesterday

soon to fade away

more hair turning grey

can’t borrow time

need a dime?

here’s some firewood to sell

flip a coin into the well

have you heard

the old tree fell

counting rings

a songbird sings

theres bags

beneath my eyes

the hourglass is shattered

and an old watchmaker cries

time is of the essence

it’s essential we don’t waste

we cannot eat eternity

but at least lets have a taste

the sundial is broken

and time is standing still

eat this bread

and drink this wine

until we’ve had our fill

the cookoo bird has lost its mind

its all hopped up on homemade wine

and father time has passed away

his loving wife is day to day

Otis Redding’s at the bay,

sitting at the dock

while I’m stuck here in London

staring at this clock

as it starts ticking faster

my mind is mesmorized

sorry Mr. Astor,

its not a thing money can buy

I’ll die before I sell it

I won’t give it away

my time is mine

and you will find

theres nothing you can pay

you can add a million zeros

or a million pounds of gold

you can bring me precious rubies

and offer fortunes untold

this is what I’ve told the others

who have tried to buy me

anything I find worth doing

I will gladly do for free

and now, if you’ll excuse me

I must go plant a tree…
