sea to shining

see stars

crash cars

tattoo over scars

colonize Mars

shut down bars

get home after

the rooster crows

drain a cup of Joe

sun rising

later and later

tis the season

after season

we’ll make up reasons

to colonize new planets

after killing our own

tap cell phones

live in fear

of boogeyman and scarecrows

as politicians and newsmen

pretend that only they know

whats on the other side

of a rainbow

and which way

the wind will blow

and into whose pockets

our tax dollars must go

but they’ll say it’s necessary

say that they’ve seen the enemy

and they’re scary

say we need to build more

and more

and more

and guns

and weapons galore

say we must prepare

for what’s in store

put bigger locks

on every door

and resign ourselves

to perpetual war

About soitgoes1984

I was born and raised on land stolen from the Pocumtuc. I now live on a small island in the middle of the Pacific ocean, on land that was stolen more recently, from the Hawaiians. I am addict, struggling to kick the habit of fossil fuel. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.
