The world is rattling my brain
and shaking my mind
I try to ease the pain
I can’t most of the time
but today is the day
that I’m going to fly
back to the islands
leave my problems behind
get off the hamster wheel
back to what’s real
where alohas not a word
it’s something that you feel
just as real as the red dirt
where you grow your food
and the beaches you relax on
acting like the dude
but there’s no need for White Russians
whiskey
beer
or wine
plenty drunk on salt water
and warm sunshine
and I’m not about to judge you
for growing some weed
but as for me
I’d rather grow Kalo
and salad greens
broccoli
beans
tomatoes
cukes and zucchini
and give thanks for the avocado
and the ulu trees
and the trades that keep us cool
as we malama the land
and the days
where all we do
is kick back
in the sand
with a good book
and good music
and some fresh squeezed lemonade
we might not have electricity
but at least
we’ve got it made
